The opening is rung freely, as if improvising, with fragments of the melody interspersed with variations in rhythm and harmonies. The full hymn begins at measure 18 with rhythmic accompaniment and counter melodies enhancing the familiar tune. Set in G Major, this piece is 82 measures.
