Salamander Tales and Gecko Antics (Faithful Devotion and Joyous Day)
Level 1 fun with our favorite amphibians! Two perfectly paced pieces for ringers moving from whole and half notes to quarter notes, with the added enticement "Everyone gets to play flats – including Gb!" Your ringers will be excited to have "real" music with a fun colorful cover that they can confidently learn and perform.
Both pieces coordinate with Lessons in
Square One
Curriculum (
RE3013R
) – "Salamander Tales" for Sections C & D (start learning it in "C" and finish it up when you get to "D") and "Gecko Antics" for Section D. "Salamander Tales" (28 measures) is set in B-flat minor and uses harmonic seconds, varying dynamics and, in the last section, repeated quarter notes (no quarter rests are used). "Gecko Antics" (16 measures) is set in D-flat major and uses quarter notes in melodic octaves and easy chords. All ringers are well-employed in all skills. Both pieces use the same bell assignments with 5 flats. No page turns are required within either piece, no bell changes are needed (diatonic) and no bells are shared, allowing this piece to be played socially distanced and even without tables.
The sacred subtitles "Faithful Devotion" and "Joyous Day" allow use in worship settings. Optional repeats in both pieces allow for longer performance times. Two compatible scores of each piece are included – "1" for 2-3 octaves for easier reading - and "2" for 2-5 octaves. The high 4th/5th oct. trebles may also be doubled (Shellied) - but they are not written in. (If you want such a score, contact Kath!) With a range of 2 to 5 octaves, these pieces can be used throughout the years with shifting numbers of ringers, and can also be played by many different-range choirs together in a school concert or festival setting.
