Reflection on St. Clement

Review:      The New English Hymnal (as in U.K. English) weds this text with the St. Clement tune: The day Thou gavest, Lord, is ended, the darkness falls at Thy behest; to Thee our morning hymns ascended, Thy praise shall sanctify our rest. Flowing accompaniment aided by the use of the LV technique helps communicate the text's intent. The melody is first presented in chords in the upper register and then gravitates to the lower register in the following section. Chromatic harmonies are added here and there to spice up the tonality.
