Scored for 2 octaves of bells or chimes, "Mountains and Valleys" is suitable for schools or churches. Featuring a scale-wise, quarter note melody against a background of dotted half note chords, this Level 1 composition introduces the challenge of playing an “exposed” melodic line without the security afforded when the melody occurs as the top note of big chords. Printed in red, the monophonic melody stands out visually. The melody occurs once in each octave, giving all ringers some melodic notes. Alternate assignments are suggested for a few quick bell changes. "God’s Encircling Love" can be used as an alternate title for church use. 48 measures. Key of C Major.
