Review:
This (AGEHR) level 3+ setting reflects the joy of both the tune and the text of this beloved gospel song-- "I'm Gonna Lay Down My Sword and Shield...Gonna study war no more." The rhythmic feel is that of a gentle, easy swing over a walking bass line, created with the stopped sounds played with mallets, and the customary, occasional syncopations. This piece will stand alone, but the addition of optional B-flat clarinet, bass and optional ad lib drums will add extra color to the texture and enliven the appeal! It is 95 measures and is scored in F Major and G Major.
