Review:
Reminiscence was commissioned by Encore! Handbell Ensemble in celebration of the life of founding member Shirley Schuhart. A devoted ringer described as “steady” and “dependable,” Shirley’s place in Encore! was primarily on the B4 and C5 bells. Reminiscence relies heavily on these bells – primarily the C5 – to be the steady “heartbeat” throughout the piece. Suitable in both worship and concert settings, the flexible voicing of the piece (spanning 3 to 7 octaves) makes it an excellent choice for festivals.
