Review:
A masterful and heart-felt tribute to the 32 victims and the survivors of the 2007 Virginia Tech shooting, “Through the Storm” personifies the range of emotions felt by all who experience great joy, immense loss and courageous hope. Spanning 3-6 octaves of bells with options for 3-4 oct. handchimes and an alternate bell set (D5-A6), this six minute, Level 4 score seamlessly transitions between contrasting sections, and a simple stark motif recurs. The main theme is beautifully lyric, and a vocal solo option for the final reprise is included – the text may also be used as a graphic during performance or printed in concert programs. A challenging and emotional piece for an advanced ensemble concert or a Bronze Festival, “Through the Storm” will also be powerful and inspirational interlude for worship, memorial or celebratory service. This very special piece was commissioned by the VTV Family Outreach Foundation and premiered in Denver, Colorado by the Timberline Ringers. 106 measures. Begins in C Major, modulates to G Minor, then to F Minor and finally back to C Major.
