Review:
As Linda Lamb’s new setting of this timeless classic begins, the bells evoke the sounds of dawn--the rising mist, the singing birds, the brightening light--with the use of the singing bell technique and random ringing. Then, as the sun crests above the horizon and the earth wakes to a new day, this 3 octave setting (with optional 3 octaves of handchimes) comes to life. The tune BUNESSAN, commonly paired with several different hymn texts, including “Child in the Manger,” makes this useful for a variety of occasions. Arranged in C Major throughout, this peaceful setting is 88 measures.
