Review:
After a somber presentation of the theme, each of the minor variations becomes more rhythmically and harmonically complex. Following the agitated six-eight time variation, there is a pause, followed by the fourth variation that is calm and tranquil. The fifth variation is joyful and dance-like. The work certainly stands alone as a set of variations, but it is also a metaphor for life's progression from darkness to light, from sorrow to joy. This orginal work certainly has a place in serious worship services and concert stage alike.
