Review:
Martin Luther’s famous hymn is updated in this jaunty adaptation for a capable trio or a soloist with piano. The Trio (Score 1), which sounds much bigger than a trio, offers two formats - a full 3-stave score and individual extracted parts - to choose from. Mallets, Marts and then straight ringing heighten the interest in the bass – while the melody can be played by a competent 4iH ringer (or shared by 2 or 3 ringers.) The Solo (Score 2) covers the melody throughout (the 4iH part C6-C7) and has the option of playing parts of the melody using either C5-C6 or C6-C7. These two settings are compatible with From the Top’s original versions for Quartet/Quintet FM1062, 3 oct. FM202993 and 5 oct. FM 202995; Now this versatile piece can be played by groups of many different sizes – ideal for worship, festivals, workshops and classes for solo and ensemble ringing.
