The percussion introduction announces something very exciting is about to happen! Written in 6/8 time, the dance-like feel in the handbell entry is in a wonderful fantasia style with engaging contrapuntal sections. The listener will hear bits of a familiar melody interwoven which makes a joyous introduction to the Easter hymn favorite, “Christ the Lord Is Risen Today.” This would be a fabulous piece if your church has liturgical dancers and it could be easily adapted as an intro to the congregational hymn Percussion is necessary to enjoy the full effect of this work.
