Review:
This creative and varied arrangement of the French carol NOËL NOUVELET is an exciting musical offering for both the Christmas and Easter seasons, using the alternate title, "Now the Green Blade Rises" during Easter. The opening uses randomly-malleted bells along with a freely-rung melody. It is ethereal and still, suggesting the new birth of both seasons. The rest of the piece is energetic and rhythmic, with malleted bass bells and the use of martellato, martellato-lift and shakes. While optional, the music is further enhanced by the use of chime tree, finger cymbals, tambourine and tenor drum. The instrument parts printed in the back of the full score are reproducible. At 108 measures, this work is scored in g minor, a minor, and eb minor.
