Review:
English composer Kenneth Hytch has created a truly major composition for the advanced handbell ensemble and accomplished harpist. A haunting melody, intricate interplay between bells and harp, and a contemporary sound weave together for a challenging and rewarding musical experience. The composer's description of the piece: "Nocturne is an exploration of the emotions suffered through differing modes of sleep from half-wakefulness to deeply felt nightmare. There is a final relaxation into untroubled, refreshing, dreamless sleep." Measures total 211.
