Carol of the Advent
"Carol of the Advent" combines a Besancon carol with text from "The Children's Bells" by Eleanor Farjeon. Two octaves of bells alone accompany SATB choir as they sing the beginning words: "People, look east. The time is near of the crowning of the year. Make your house fair as you are able, trim the hearth and set the table." The piece may be familiar as the hymn "People Look East." The tempo is lively and the meter is 6/8. A beginning level II choir should have no problem with this part or perhaps disperse the bells among the singers, who are ringers as well! (Old # was 1110489.)
