Review:
The texture of this setting of the Early American melody gradually builds textually. First, a simple statement of the them with quarter-note accompaniment. Then the pulse quickens to flowing, eighth-note fare, and then to syncopation and 16th-note obligato. All of this builds to a climatic chord and a caesura followed by a mezzo piano ending.
