Lamento Borincano

Review:      The story of this selection for 3-5 octaves and optional percussion reflects the economical and social situation of Puerto Rico during the early years of this century. The music was written by one of the most popular Puerto Rican composers and musicians, Rafael Hernandez. This programmatic piece tells of a farmer from the early decades, who one day went to the city to sell all of his harvest. On the road to the city he was thinking and singing with joy about all the things he could do or buy if he would sell all of his products. Unfortunately, when he arrived to the city no one bought any of the fruits of his harvest. The farmer returned to his farm with all he had taken. He was very sad and worried about how he would support his family. Performance notes are given.
