Review:
This lovely, original work by composer Michael Mazzatenta was a competition contest winner sponsored by Bells of the Sound in 2024. It is musical ‘tone poem’ taking the listener on a journey beginning at dawn followed by birds awakening and taking flight. An afternoon rain shower clears as majestic mountains come into view. The journey continues returning home and the blissful peace of sunset. All this is achieved using suspended bells, gentle melody featured on handchimes and bells. Randomly rung ‘raindrops’ on suspended bells and cascading handchimes lines are supported by singing bells segueing into mountains of dramatic chords using tower swings and echoes. The strong melody, cascading handchime melodies and many LV passages lead to a peaceful reprise of the initial section. This is a beautifully written and well-crafted work that is sure to be a hit in your next concert!
