Review:
Brian Childers’ arrangement of the well-known “It Came Upon the Midnight Clear” is a fresh take on an old classic. An ethereal opening gives way to an off-beat treatment of the tune, which manages to be both traditional and innovative at the same time. A more serene middle section assigns the bass handchimes to the lower treble ringers, providing an interesting visual and aural experience. The piece builds into a powerful final verse before floating away to a gentle final chord. Not to be missed this holiday season! 101 measures. Key of Bb Major.
