Review:
Edvard Grieg’s “Death of Ase” comes from Peer Gynt Suite No. 1 and has been masterfully transcribed by Brian Tervo. This edition contains two versions. One is designed to make use of the lower octave handchimes. The second offers a more traditional 3 or 4 octave version for handbells. This pensive, deliberate work would be an excellent concert selection that showcases the rich, penetrating sound of the low 5th, 6th, and 7th octaves of handchimes.
