Review:
No other Advent hymn is more recognizable than the beautiful chant VENI EMMANUEL. Originally set by Larry Shackley for piano solo, this accessible 3-5 octave transcription was done by Arnold Sherman and features the use of open 4ths and 5ths, creating a dreamy, wistful mood. This mysterious presentation crescendos and builds to the memorable refrain: “Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel shall come to thee, O Israel.” This rendition is scored in e minor.
