Minstrel Boy, The
The old Irish folk song about the young musician gone off to war is here set in several, distinct sections of accompaniment figure. Smooth, step-wise, 16th note figures provide a musical "river" effect for the melody in section one; syncopated rhythms accented by martellatos balance against a bass clef melody in section two; Section three is replete with triplet figures played by mallets on tabled bells giving a field drum effect. The final section suggests the noise of battle fading away into memory.
