Bethena
This ragtime waltz was written in 1905 and combines both classical waltz and ragtime style. Paul has nicely adapted it for handbells incorporating mallets, plucks, and a few LVs plus ring touch techniques for perfectly placed accents and emphasis. It is graceful and takes advantage of subtle tempo nuances and dynamic expressions. Several key changes and segues lead to all of the variations plus there are several repeats, which may offer opportunities to adjust performance time if necessary. This is sure to become a staple in your concert repertoire.
