Let Love Be Our Voice
Hope and healing, claimed by choosing love as a response to violence, is the focus of “Let Love Be Our Voice.” Written shortly after angry and violent public demonstrations in Charlottesville, Virginia (the composer lives an hour away) – and edited in the wake of the Las Vegas massed shooting – this heartfelt original hymn touches on the many ways we can respond positively to evil in the world when facing devastating news or our questioning children and even those responsible for the mayhem. And finally, Jesus gives us the answer we don’t always want to hear: “Love your enemies.” A calm but rhythmic accompaniment introduces the easy-to-learn tune and conversational text, ending with the refrain each time: “Let love be our choice. Let love be our voice.”
