Tambourine or drum sets the martial tone in this old Shaker tune in a minor mode (New Lebanon, New York, 1847). The melody, with a few grace-note inflections, is determined, but in a spirited tempo (dotted quarter = 102 in 6/8 meter). The tune begins in unison accompanied by the percussion, but soon blooms into a full fabric. Mallet rolls and shakes are called for along with other staccato techniques.
