Get Them Ringing
Finally! A quick, well-written and organized resource for "Try Your Hand at Ringing" experiences at music ed conferences, county fairs, farmers' markets, craft shows, yard sales, downtown days, ringing handbell playgrounds, band/choral competitions, theme parks, teacher/school board meetings, retreats, recruiting events, talent shows, children's sermons, ice breakers at parties or rehearsals, first day of school or camp, retirement centers, Life-Long Learning presentations, or whatever you can think of! Written by Kathleen Wissinger, a well-respected handbell educator and long-time expert in introducing bells to new ringers of all ilks, each music score is carefully, methodically selected and presented to assure success for any new ringers; accessible to all levels of non-musicians and musicians.

Bright and colorful, the five score booklets are sold as a set – one leader score and four ringer scores. The Leader's Edition (Book #5) clearly explains set-up, planning, staffing, presenting, and teaching for any level of experience. The Ringer Editions (Books #1-#4) offer chord playing as well as basic music notation options, using only 8 bells (F5-F6) with options for up to 8 more bells in positions B4C5, D5E5, G6A6, and B6C7 - accommodating from 4 to 8 ringers. Leaders can fill in empty positions if needed. Chordal pieces in Section A (essentially Level Zero! with no musical experience!) are "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star"; "Jingle Bells"; and "The Bear Went Over the Mountain". The 'music on the staff' section (very basic Level 1) introduces playing 2 notes on a treble staff and offers "Ode to Joy", "This Old Man" and "Wellerman" (refrain only) in two different formats: 1) extracted parts on a staff in which a ringer sees only their own notes (B) – and 2) a fully notated score (C).

Pieces are progressive – the first piece in each section is very easy, the next offers a little more challenge (either more chord changes or easy 8th notes) and the 3rd piece more so (faster chord changes or dotted quarter-8th patterns.) All are within the capabilities of any random person coming by who wants to give it a try! The leader's edition has detailed instructions on how to teach new ringers, tips, and a narrative for guiding them in their first ringing experience. Thanks to Aimee Buchanan, Val Heard, Peggy Kuehl, Mike Mandigo, Alice Real, Jerry Hill and Gillian Erlenborn for providing input for this booklet! And Gloria Dei bell choir for learning to play chords for the demo recording.

This resource is not reproducible. It is available in a hard copy set and as a Digital Direct Download, which licenses the original purchaser to make one copy of each booklet for their own needs. (If you need more booklets, buy another set, please!) Sold as a set of 5 booklets – one Leader & four individualized books for up to 8 Ringers.
