Frolic Flight of the Hummingbird
This original composition is written specifically for handbells with optional flute and percussion. It is a sonic representation of the journey of a hummingbird – from nesting and birth through fledging, first flight, feeding, resting and returning to exuberant and joyous flight once again.
The sheer delight that is conveyed through bell techniques such as mallet, TD, LV and shakes and more is amazing! The addition of flute and the simple percussion provides just the right support and addition to make this a ringer and audience favorite!
Kurt describes this as a "jaunty Lydian-esque mode ... characterized by a sixteenth note neighbor tone motif" that perfectly captures "the whimsicality and wing pattern of a hummingbird’s flight." Descriptions and insight for each of the six sections are provided by the composer.
