We Are Done
The Madden Brothers’ pop rock hit “We Are Done” is deftly captured in this spirited rendition by Kathleen Wissinger. Driving rhythms and full harmonies make it ideal for high school and college groups as well as for community and advanced ensembles. You can add ad lib tambourine or drum set if you wish - or even a bass guitar following the bass ringing line which is separated on its own staff for clarity. Covering 4-6 octaves with optional chimes, this brisk Level 3+ piece has multiple voices true to the original performance, making for a slightly busier notation style, but voices are clearly assigned, and some notes (esp. chimes) can be reassigned to nearby ringers if needed. Repetition is key, as the catchy syncopated motifs pop up again and again. This boisterous contemporary song speaks of yearning to be recognized and valued without judgement: “No, we won't just go back Home without you hearing The sound when the many say, 'We are done.'” Include a lead singer or a vocal ensemble to add extra punch (Lyrics are included.) for more ideas. Performing “We Are Done” in concert, contest, graduation or festival proves that handbells are a relevant instrument in pop culture, while sharing the conviction of the worth of each individual and having a rollicking good time ringing. 103 measures. Key of C Major.
