Suite in A (Suite Charlotte)
Margaret Tucker’s Suite in A (subtitled Suite Charlotte) was commissioned in memory of handbell director Charlotte Williamson, known to many of her friends as “Char.” The four letters of her name serve as the opening notes in each of the three movements of the suite. The movements are entitled Chorale and Prelude, Sicilienne, and Polonaise.
The Chorale and Prelude are in the key of A Major and can be performed together or as separate pieces; the Chorale is 20 measures in length, the Prelude is 36 measures in length for a total of 56 measures if played as one piece. The Sicilienne is in the key of A Minor and is 29 measures in length. The Polonaise returns to the key of A Major and is 73 measures in length.
