Jerusalem My Happy Home
Based on the early American tune LAND OF REST, this lively and varied arrangement features optional parts for flute, cello, congas or djembe, bongos, chime tree, shaker or maracas, suspended cymbal, and claves. The themes of joy and happiness are obvious in the introduction and first stanza, with the use of dancing, staccato rhythms. The second stanza is more flowing in style, with the cello playing the tune. A four-part round in the third stanza, employing optional handchimes along with the flute and cello, is accompanied by a bass chord sustained by the singing bell technique. The final stanza is full and glorious, featuring a soaring flute descant and a suspended cymbal. "Jerusalem, My Happy Home" is 98 measures and is set in Eb Major.
