Review:      This seventy-two measure selection is an impression on two hymn tunes: Down Ampney, by Ralph Vaughan Williams and Veni Creator Spiritus a Sarum plainsong, mode VIII. The opening is marked "very freely; chant like" and has a loosely imitative texture. The next section uses the LV technique in flowing eighth-note accompaniment. DOWN AMPNEY's use adds chordal texture to the mix. The ending is very slow and free and ends on a pianissimo.
