The melody of the haunting tune PICARDY is used for this wonderful Advent or General prelude. The “Alleluia” motif begins the piece and ties together two very contrasting settings of the melody. Both treble and bass ringers play the melody in the first stanza; while the second stanza is rhythmic and powerful. Accessible and dramatic for 2 or 3 octaves of handbells or handchimes, this piece is 77 measures. Key of g minor.
