Review:
The composers conceived this piece as an honor to the Lake Superior Zoo, destroyed in the flood at Duluth, Minnesota in June 2012. A dozen animals drowned and this piece memorializes their loss. Its original scoring was for handbells and Native American flute but the solo line can be played by any C instrument. Rhythms are repetitive and easy and there are no accidentals within the g minor tonality. This is a somber but lovely, expressive commemoration that could be used on other memorial occasions.
