Review:
In the late 70's, singer Cynthia Clawson recorded Raymond Brown's new musical setting to the hymn text "Softly and Tenderly." This poignant setting of the now classic song is for handbell accompaniment and medium-low vocal solo. As the solo voice sings the melody, it is not optional. With character markings of "with feeling and freely, with expression", the expressive piece is 91 measures and is scored in C and D Majors.
