Review:
Commissioned by the American Guild of English Handbell Ringers for the 13th International Handbell Symposium in Orlando, Florida, this original composition "Jazz Rag" is the second installment in "An American Tapestry." Jazz rhythms and harmonies prevail in this reflection on the heritage of jazz in American life. The work is 69 measures and is scored primarily in C Major. The instruments included are: piccolo, 2 flutes, 2 Bb clarinets, bass clarinet, 2 alto saxophones, tenor saxophone, baritone saxophone, 3 Bb trumpets, 3 trombones, tuba, cymbals, snare drum, bass drum, bass guitar, and a piano.
