Huron Carol
Bells used in this anthem range from F5 to C#7 and are used sparingly, usually in a unison line. Fluently arranged for SSA chorus, organ and optional handbells, the arranger combines the 16th century French carol, Une jeune pucelle, with the native American text translated into English. The text begins: 'Twas in the moon of wintertime, when all the birds had fled, that mighty Gitchi Manitou sent angel choirs instead; before their light the stars grew dim, and wond'ring hunters heard the hymn: Jesus your King is born.
