What a Friend We Have In Jesus
This jazzed-up swing version of an old favorite hymn will please ringers and audiences as well. Rhythms are initially demanding but remain consistent throughout. Textures are thick and resonant over the “walking” bass line, and the “swing” triplet feel makes duplets against triplets much easier than usual. The piece is built on two complete verses with intro and bridges between, but the tonality moves from E flat to F and to G for the finale. It is 108 measures in length.
