Introduction and Passacaglia
This immense composition was the Inaugural Donald E. Allured Original Composition Award winner and is subtitled de Nomine DEA. Written for 5 to 7-octaves of bells with optional handchimes and timpani. The introduction is energetic eighths over an A pedal point in d minor. The passacaglia section is marked Majestic. First presented in full, chordal texture it next moves to 2/2 time with a contrapuntal texture. Triplets enter the scene next as well as chimes in the bass. A running bass line appears next played by mallets on tabled bells. The final sections involve sixteenths on top, quarters in the middle and eighths on the bottom! And, of course, there is a big final ending.
