Star of the County Down
County Down located in northern Ireland adjacent to the Irish Sea, is filled with beauty and inspiration from the seacoast to the Mourne Mountains and beyond and has strong links to St. Patrick, who is said to have sung psalms there. It is no wonder that a popular Irish folk melody is also a hymn tune as well as a poem made up of double and single quatrains. Thus, it has roots in both sacred and secular music – and Brian’s setting will work perfectly in either! The peaceful beginning feature chimes, random malleted notes, cymbals and bar chimes as the melody is gradually introduced, leading to a light dance-like section. Mallets and shakes propel it forward as the tempo increases … suddenly, a peaceful moment… before it rollicks on to the end. What an amazing setting! Perfect for worship or concert – a must-have for your group!
