Tears of the Lilies
This picture in sound, called a “reflection of Calvary”, is sure to produce an emotional response from ringers and listeners. It opens with a “f “ wail that diminishes into the quiet theme over ostinato patterns of eighth notes. Midway, the musical character changes beneath the melody, where detached note patterns add drama. The final section moves from g minor to a minor in a climactic fashion, the ostinato returns,
and the music dies away to a “pp” ending. The pairing of handbells and optional 3 octave handchimes add lovely tonal color to this exceptional 89-measure original work.
