Miyabi
Scored for the 15th International Handbell Symposium in 2012 in Liverpool, UK, "Miyabi" is an original composition written for the "HRJ's (Handbell Ringers of Japan) 20th Anniversary Ceremony" in 1996. The piece is based on the theme of Gagaku (Japanese Court Music) "Etenraku." Gagaku has the longest history among Japanese traditional music and the earliest record of a Gagaka performance of the "Etenraku" dates back to 966 AD. It has been performed at court ceremonies, conveying the unchanged harmony since the Heian period for over 1000 years.
