Lux Aeterna
The vision for this composition is one of comparison between earth and Paradise, mortals and angels, and the yearning for heavenly perfection. Unquestionably, the piece is a "color composition" created to invoke an air of reflection and introspection. Progressive major chords and tied chords with fermatas establish an ethereal, angelic quality. Special techniques used include the singing bell and the rim damp, which is performed by damping only the rim of the bell. Conductors are encouraged to use great freedom with phrasing. "Lux Aeterna" is 57 measures.
