A Fond Farewell... Inez is Retiring.
For those of you who go back to the beginning of Jeffers Handbell Supply, Inez is a very familiar name. Inez Soland has been that friendly voice on the other end of the phone for the better part of 30 years, and this year she is retiring. Here’s a quick history of Inez’s participation over the years.
Early on we jumped into the computer age. Inez and “Sir” got along famously. Shortly afterwards, we went to a main terminal and individual sets on our desks. The main unit was “Mama” - we turned her on first - and the desk units were the “babies”. In between herother duties, Inez helped us enter the AGEHR membership list into our database.
No one was more delighted when all the arrangements had been made to connect us to the city sewer line. Irmo may be small, but now we were “uptown” for sure. Plus, Inez’s husband worked with Federal Department in Columbia in water purification. Another high spot for all of us was the building of the “real loading dock”. Inez was there through all the growing pains and confusion.
When we began traveling around to festivals, Inez of course was one of our show people. One year after setting up for National Seminar, we broke for dinner. Inez ordered soup - said she was too tired to chew! When she did not go to a show, we were always asked “Did you bring Inez?” Since this was asked to me, the president of Jeffers, it really was fun to realize I had been away from the phones too long. We still get asked about Inez wherever we go.
Inez’s main job has been in Customer Support, taking orders and answering questions, but she has also been the ideal person to train new folks who have joined Jeffers over the years. And she has always been our own “mother hen”, watching over the next member of our family.
It is hard to believe that 30 years have come and gone since Inez first knocked on our door seeking part-time employment. We have had many laughs, shared family highs and lows, cut more than one birthday cake together. We will miss Inez, as we know many of you will. That friendly voice on the other end of the line will still be there... there will just be a different name attached.
We all wish you well - Inez. You deserve every joy coming your way.
